B&G: The Beer Can

Product Identity

Blue & Gold Brewing Co. is built on a collaboration Marquette University students and alumni in the beer business. Following the successful launch of the previous year’s ‘77 Golden Ale, the student-run team was tasked with developing and designing a new product that could generate as much, if not more, excitement and hype.

The Direction

Named The Beer Can, this beer bears the nickname given to the former McCormick Hall for it’s unique shape. Drawing inspiration from the nostalgia of Marquette’s beloved residence hall, I saw this label as an opportunity to lean into a more vintage and collegiate look-and-feel to effectively distinguish itself from it’s vibrant and retro predecessor. Using a sleek navy base and gold accents, an illustrated silhouette of the building, and striking typography to mimic the famous architecture, this beer was designed with Marquette alumni in mind, with hopes of bringing back fond memories of this cherished spot on campus for generations of students who lived there.
